"Through the turning centuries, the love of Shiva and Shakthi whispers an eternal truth: that in every man lives a space only a woman’s spirit can awaken, and in her presence, his deepest self is revealed."
According to the sacred traditions of Madurai, King Pandian and Queen Kanchana, longed for a child, performed a Yaga, from which a three-year-old divine girl emerged. She was Meenakshi, an incarnation of Shakti, born with three breasts and a prophecy that the extra breast would disappear when she met her destined husband.
Raised as a warrior princess, She conquered the whole world with her extraordinary war skills, and at last she went to Kailasha (the abode of Shiva) to conquer it. During her final conquest, she reached Kailasam, where at the very moment she saw Lord Shiva, her third breast vanished, revealing him as her divine consort Sundareswaran.
Shiva agreed to come to Madurai for their wedding, and their celestial marriage— Meenakshi Thirukalyanam—was celebrated by gods, sages, and all beings.
Vishnu, as her brother Alagar, was meant to give her away but arrived late, a moment remembered in the Chithirai Festival.
Lord Vishnu places the bride’s right hand, palm upward on the bridegroom’s and poured water from a little kettle to solemnize the wedding.
Their union symbolizes the cosmic harmony of Shakti and Shiva, balancing power and wisdom.
